Last month, we saw one of our clients stuck at a 2% subscription conversion rate. Everything else looked solid: traffic, onboarding pass ratio, and even day-1 retention.
But the paywall? Dead quiet.
So started checking the app and listing the quick wins.
There were obvious pain points on the paywall and onboarding.
They see static screenshots and a wall of feature bullets. Yawn.
The test
We rebuilt the flow for their card-identifier app using nothing but AI-generated video:
Segmented hooks
Custom Product Pages (CPPs) on the Store:
Sports fans → snippet of a rare Michael Jordan card being scanned.
Collectors → vintage baseball card under a loupe.
TCG nerds → holographic Pokémon pull.
Onboarding micro-loops
6-second vertical clips that show scan-→-price-→-value, no voice-over, no stock music.
Each clip autoplays as soon as the user lands on the slide.
Paywall “promise” reel
Horizontal hero video in the background.
Starts with a scan, ends on a live price tag popping in.
Silent version for focus; faint whoosh/chime version for A/B.
All videos were generated in-house with Veo 3. Total cost: under $20, way less than one outsourced motion-designer hour.
The result
Metric | Before | After |
---|---|---|
Subscription conversion | 2 % | 10 % |
Paywall view to purchase | 41 % | 68 % |
Five times more users tapped “Subscribe” without a single reshoot. Yes, ten percent. No paid creatives, no reshoots, no headaches.
Why it worked
Motion catches the eye. Static screenshots blur together. Video feels like a live demo.
Persona-matched pages. Each group sees its dream card first.
Promise then payoff. Onboarding proves the magic; the paywall repeats it in miniature.
Steal the playbook
Choose your one aha action, whether it is scan, edit, or track.
Generate a five-to-eight-second loop that starts and ends on the same frame.
Launch it silently first; add sound only if mute metrics dip.
Create at least three Custom Product Pages with swapped opening shots.
Watch the paywall-to-purchase change over 5-7 days, then tweak.
TL;DR
AI video is not a novelty; it is a conversion lever. If you are still paying agency rates for every creative, reply with FIX MY VIDEO and I will send the exact prompts we used.
